Molly's At the Market: A Free House

This photo was taken in 2003 outside Molly’s at the Market in the New Orleans’ French Quarter during the week before Christmas. Molly’s became a favorite stopping point for us during our visit to the Big Easy. We came to love their version of the Bloody Mary, a concoction we tagged as “the Bloody Molly” (they really should change the name). It was spicy and included a hit of Guinness. In a previous incarnation of the bourbonhours website I had this photo displayed in a photo gallery application, along with the following description, which I am quoting here as it was used verbatim in another random post out there in the interwebs and which I stumbled onto when looking into links to this website from outside.

Molly’s at the Market – a “free house”. Our favorite watering hole in the quarter, full of dropouts, queers, freaks, and phds. Oh yeah, and a fabulous juke box.

I found this quote in a post about Molly’s. The link has been 404-ing for years, as god and me have been away on business, but today I have added a redirect from the old link to this post. Phew, I’ve fixed the internet. Ain’t that grand?
